Chesapeake Affair
On June 22nd 1807 an incident took place between the HMS Leopard of 50 guns and the USS Chesapeake of 38 guns. This incident became known as the “Chesapeake Affair” and was a cause of the War of 1812, as with most human interaction the event can be described in real time, addressing only what occurred not why. On this website the contributing editors will try to address the why of it all, in the hopes that both the citizens and leaders of all nations, may see from the facts, what caused the armed conflict, learn from it, and someday, through historical knowledge achieve a state of international peace and tolerance.
